Shoretees SUPwear & Ocean Co.

At Shoretees SUPwear we have always tried to align ourselves with others that are also trying to make a difference to our planet and oceans, that’s why since 2020 when we launch, we have built our range around using recycled and sustainable materials.

We’re now super stoked to announce our partnership with Ocean Co., a global movement dedicated to collecting 7 billion ocean-bound plastic bottles by 2025.

Did you know that a staggering 2 million kilograms of plastic enter our oceans each day? That’s equivalent to a truckload of plastic every single minute. If we don’t take action, by 2050, the plastic in our oceans will outweigh the fish that call these waters home.

We’re not perfect (far from it), and we know this, so to try and counteract where we are not where we want to be we’re committing, through Ocean Co., to remove a minimum of 1KG of ocean bound plastic for every £50 spent with Shoretees SUPwear. Our goal is to collect at least 1’500kg of ocean-bound plastic by October 2025, equivalent to over 132,000 plastic bottles in weight, all while supporting livelihoods in coastal regions around the world where plastic pollution is worst.

Plastic is collected by locals from some of the worst affected coastal communities such as the Philippines, Brazil, Egypt, Ghana, India and Indonesia, who then exchange the plastic for money or receive digital credit to swap for tuition, tech goods, healthcare and micro-finance. This infrastructure is made possible with help from partners Plastic Bank, Plastics for Change and rePurpose who set up collection sites and ensure transactions to collectors are secure through traceable technology.
